40 members of Rotary family of RC Nigdi started at 7 am in the morning by bus to 14 trees Foundation site at Village Vetale, Near kadus , ta Khed, 60 km from Pune. Almost 200 trees of the native varieties were planted by our members on the portion of a land of the “ 14 trees “ projects site spread over 100 acres. 14 trees foundation ensures 100 percent growth for the planted trees , as the trees are well protected by tree guards, and is being monitored and watered regularly till the plant grows to a sustainable size. 14 trees foundation has already made arrangements for sufficient water at the site thro water ponds created all over. The project is a unique project towards restoring the environment and nature and has not only great impact on environment but has created great impact on local communities by providing them social entrepreneurship opportunities and creating work opportunities for them. This has also increased ground water levels in the nearby areas and solved drinking water problems for locals and the cattle feed. A brief about 14 trees foundation This is a unique Initiative by Dr pravin Bhagwat which has not only set example of how one should go about the tree plantations but also has resulted in benefits to the local farmers and tribal families. The real achievements of the project could be experience only by seeing and visiting the actual site. Since the project involves making arrangements for water and protecting the trees for the life time , the money spent on this site has resulted in employment and uplifting of at least 100 plus tribal families. The ground water levels have increased and helped local farmers also. Since every tree planted is protected with Bamboo tree guards,, local tribals have been trained and have started activities like Tree guard making, Farm manures- jeevamrut plants, plant nursery which created income source for the locals apart from the labor opportunities.
