It's a proud moment, All Lady Presidents have initiated *Jaldurga Project* Jaldurga project is on 1st oct at karve institute pune. Lady president's will felicitate *5 ladies, working in water Projects*. Let us all support and join in large numbers ? In Service in Rotary ? 9 Rotary clubs together felicitated 5 women who have done inspirational work in water conservation. It was a great experience to hear them tell their struggles and achievements through raising awareness and gaining community support. Chief guest DGE Manjoo Phadke gave Rotary introduction. District WASH team Director Satish Khade introduced the awardees. They were given a trophy and a very apt Navdurga frame from P N Gadgil chosen by Pres Pranita Alurkar. While most of the program details are in the newspaper write up, here is a very brief intro about our awardees. *Dr Sandhya Dudhgaonkar* a retired professor from Parbhani who revived a dried 100 acre lake and its ecosystem. It now provides a livelihood to many local villagers. When they didn't have enough resources, she donated all her retirement funds to the cause. *Dr Swapnaja Mohite* from Ratnagiri fought for admission at the fisheries college and was the first female student and after her PhD is now a professor there!!. Her work in wetlands and mangrove conservation has saved large areas from destruction. She raised awareness among fisher folk and ensured their livelihood. Her documentation of Indian sponges and growing few species in lab conditions is pioneering *Uma Aslekar* is a geographer and has mapped the aquifers of Pune and the results were startling, helping the local corporation and NGOs look at creating a ground water management and guidelines framework. *Dr Dhanashree Patil* is teaching at Vengurla and has helped documentation of wetlands biodiversity of Sindhudurg making it the only district in India to have a database with images. She is researching bio pesticides made from shikakai and vekhand to reduce cancer causing toxins leaching in water from pesticides and fertilizers. Her work in Kolhapur on solid wet waste management has greatly reduced biodegradable waste going to landfills *Shalu Kolhe* - her's was the story that gave goosebumps and hearing it in her own words and local Gondia dialect laced Marathi was an unforgettable experience. A story of a 12th pass young lady appearing in a gram sabha for the first time and demanding desilting and rejuvenation of lakes and following up the task thru MNREGA, generating employment for women, reviving 44 lakes and many local fish species in Bhandara and Gondia. She narrated hurdles like political pressure, lack of knowledge and expertise, no transportation, no understanding of govt systems, traveling thru naxal forests and many others . But only her strength, sheer determination and husband's support helped her. It was her first visit to Pune and she was very happy to meet the Rotary family. Our salute to all these Jaldurgas
