CT SCAN MACHINE – A RC- NIGDI –ENPRO CSR GLOBAL GRANT PROJECT Moraya Hospital in Chinchwad, Pune, is a Charitable Hospital is dedicated mainly for serving the poor and low income strata of the society. The hospital is headed by Dr Avinash Wachasundar and run by his team of dedicated doctors. The project is for installation of a CT Scan machine which is imperative for various surgeries and diagnosis. These machines provide a 3-D picture of bones, blood vessels and other tissues and these images help doctors accurately diagnose the location, the existence or otherwise of disease, injury etc. The procedure can be life-saving in emergencies and many other surgical procedures. The Hospital has about 250 admissions and 4500 OPD per month. About 4/5patients need CT Scan per Day. The cost of the project is about $156200. These machines are virtually out of reach of poor patients as there are only about 6 such machines in an area having population of 6 million persons. These at mostly private hospitals and the costs of using them are often prohibitive for the poor patients. M/S Enpro Industries Pvt. Ltd. , A company headed By Rtn. Shrikkrishna & Alka Karkare, agreed to be a CSR donor for the project. Also the club, RC Nigdi, Pune, took up the challenge of raising the amount of Rs. 1.1 crore, required for executing the project. The project was executed as a CSR Global Grant Project. The budget of $156200, was met with the help of ENPRO, TRF ($45150 ) Dist 3131 ($10000), Districts & clubs from Finland (about$5000) and RC Nigdi. Since this was a CSR global grant, the condition of 30% from partner District was waived. CT Scan is a necessary and life- saving equipment needed for emergencies and also for diagnosis and surgeries. PCMC is the Industrial part of Pune where a large population of industrial workers and poor marginal workers reside. At present the equipment is available at rates not affordable to such population. The result is either death or poor 2nd line treatment. This project will provide the community with a low cost / free option of such CTscan. This project will give FREE treatment to patients below poverty line and concessional treatment (50% cost) to poor patients. Also the general rates for CT scan charged by the hospital would only about 60 % of the rates of private hospitals, thereby reducing the cost burden of the lower income strata of the society
